Leo women's basketball team scores league win over Caltech

PASADENA- The University of La Verne women's basketball squad rolled to a 63-45 conference victory over Caltech Thursday. 

The Leopards (12-7, 7-3 SCIAC) used a stifling defense to hold the Beavers (1-18, 0-10 SCIAC) to 19 points in the first half. A 13-3 Leo run midway through the period gave La Verne a double-digit lead and the Leos extended their advantage to 38-19 by halftime led by 12 points from sophomore center Emily Myers.

The Leopards bench got involved in the second period, scoring 15 of the Leopards' 25 points, including six points in six minutes of playing time from freshman center Brynn Dahmer

Myers led all scorers with 17 points to go with six rebounds. Senior forward Teresa Fatai also grabbed six boards while junior point guard Tiffany Hicks dished out four assists. All 12 Leo players registered points in the matchup.

Both squads grabbed 47 rebounds, but the Leos held a 28-18 advantage with points in the paint. La Verne won the turnover battle by a 30-20 margin and converted those extra possessions into 28 points.

La Verne is scheduled to host the University of Redlands Thursday at the Franz Athletic Court. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
