ORANGE- The University of La Verne women's soccer squad dropped a 3-1 match to Chapman University Saturday.
The first half remained quiet and both squads went into the halfway mark with no goals, no corner kicks, and no bookings. The action came quickly in the second period, however, as Chapman (10-8-1, 7-7 SCIAC) scored first in the 60th minute and added two more before La Verne could respond with a goal from senior forward Marisella Macias in the final seconds of play. Fellow senior defender Katie Careaga provided the assist.
Seventeen total shots were unleashed in the second half along with five bookings. Chapman was awarded four corner kicks in addition to one for the Leopards. The Panthers held a 17-8 advantage in shots attempts on the night.
Macias attempted three shots to lead the offense while junior goalkeeper Delanie Pacheco made seven stops.
Under first-year coach Lauryn Pehanich, the Leopards finished their season with a 9-10-1 mark after going 4-11-2 a year ago. In addition, La Verne put forward a 6-7-1 conference record after a 1-11-2 mark in 2012.
