Junior forward Alex Wolpe, who was instrumental in a pair of Leopard wins in conference, was named the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week on January 19. The SCIAC leader in field goal percentage, Wolpe connected on 16 of his 21 shots in two games to help propel La Verne to a pair of conference wins over Occidental and Caltech.
Wolpe totaled 15 points and 6 rebounds in a 52-49 triumph over Occidental on Jan. 12 in Eagle Rock as La Verne earned its first win over the Tigers in nearly five years. Wolpe followed that effort with 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting in a 76-70 home win over the Beavers. Currently Wolpe is shooting a league-best .695 from the field as La Verne is currently 8-7 overall and 3-1 in league play.
