The University of La Verne begins its 2012-13 regular season on Friday as it tips with Whitman College at Frantz Athletic Court in the first of two weekend home games against Northwest Conference opponents.
All told, the Leopards have 13 home dates on the schedule in addition to appearances at the Hampton Inn Classic in Santa Cruz and the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas.
La Verne opens the season against Whitman and play host to Linfield two days later before embarking on Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
With the addition of Chapman, the Leopards move from 14 to 16 league games along with an earlier start to league. The SCIAC battles open with a visit to Whittier on November 29. A week later, the Leos host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps before resuming league action in January.
The Leopards face six non-league opponents in the month of December, including a trip to Santa Cruz for the Hampton Inn Classic (Dec. 1-2), where they face two more Northwest Conference members in Puget Sound followed by a date with 2012 NCAA runner-up George Fox. GFU earned the No. 2 ranking in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Preseason Top 25 Poll.
La Verne will receive visits from Trinity (Dec. 15) and Hanover (Dec. 18) prior to its visit to Las Vegas for the D3hoops.com (Dec. 28-29), where it faces Carroll and Lake Forest.
On January 5, the Leos will host Chapman in the first-ever meeting as conference foes. La Verne also hosts defending league champ Occidental on January 24 before entertaining UC Santa Cruz two days later (Jan. 26) in the final non-conference tilt of the regular season.
The Leos finish the regular season will consecutive home games against Cal Lutheran (Feb. 16) and Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 18).
