The University of La Verne dropped a hard-fought decision to the University of Redlands as the Leopards fell 86-82  in SCIAC women's basketball action Thursday night at Currier Gymnasium.

As a result, both teams are currently locked in a tie for third place in the conference standings at 7-3 heading into weekend action.

The Leopards led by 12 points midway through the second half before a late surge by the Bulldogs would turn the deficit into a six point lead.

Trailing 82-76, La Verne's Tyne McClure helped knot the contest by scoring the Leos' next three field goals - the last coming at 1:32 to tie the game at 82.  However, Redlands guard Colleen Goeser hit a jumper with 58 seconds left to break the deadlock.  La Verne was unable to convert in its final two possessions as Goeser, who  finished with a game-high 24 points on the night, added a pair of free throws in between to provide the game's final margin.

La Verne (10-9, 7-3 SCIAC) led 70-58 with 11 minutes remaining before the Bulldogs went on a 16-4 run to draw even at 74 with 6:45 to play.  Redlands continued its momentum and would score the eight of the 10 points to grab an 82-76 lead with 4:35 remaining.

In the first half, the Bulldogs held an early 20-12 lead before the Leopards closed the gap midway through the period.  La Verne tied the game at 33 at the 5:20 mark and would enter the break trailing by two at 47-45.  Redlands connected on 53% of its field goal attempts in the first 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs (14-5, 7-3 SCIAC) overcame an 0-11 effort from three-point range but were bolstered by a 22-31 (71%) performance at the free throw line.  Redlands held a 54-48 rebounding edge and totaled 48 points in the paint compared to 38 for the Leopards.  La Verne received 39 points from its bench compared to 11 for Redlands.

Lindsey Foster led La Verne with 23 points with McClure adding 15 points. Senior guard Amanda Copas posted 14 points for the Leos to move closer to reaching 1,000 for her career.  The trio of Foster, McClure and Copas each pulled down seven rebounds to tie for team-high honors.

La Verne continues road action as it travels to Orange to take on Chapman University Saturday in a 5:00 pm tip-off.
