The University of La Verne took care of business on Senior Night, using a 17-0 run late in the first half to eventually cruise to a 111-69 win over Pomona-Pitzer on in SCIAC women's basketball action Monday at Frantz Athletic Court.
The win allowed the Leopards to keep pace with Occidental for the battle to earn the final spot in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Both the Leopards and Tigers - who defeated Whittier 76-62 on Monday night - remain even in the tie-breaking criteria, forcing a coin flip on Tuesday.
The Leos held a 35-29 advantage on the Saghens before reeling off 17 unanswered points in a span of less than four minutes, culminating on a three-pointer from Amanda Copas with 2:51 left to seize a 52-29 lead. La Verne would their lead to 61-34 at the break.
La Verne (14-11, 11-5 SCIAC) enjoyed balanced scoring on the evening as a total of six Leopards reached double figures led by senior Christina Kinney and junior Megan Musashi who each registered 13 points. Fellow senior Amanda Copas along with Brittni Tapia and Alysia Trejo recorded 12 points.
The Leos also were productive from three-point range, connecting on 19 treys for the game led by Tapia and Trejo with four triples each.
Pomona-Pitzer (6-17, 5-11) was led by Juliah Shay Kim who tallied a game-high 14 points.
La Verne went over the 100-point mark for the eighth time this season, reaching the century mark for the first time since January 24.
Prior to the game, the Leos honored their five-player senior class consisting of Copas, Kinney, Kayla Cribbs, Tyne McClure and Michelle Webb, each of whom made their final home appearance at Frantz Athletic Court.
